Can You Get An Accurate Astrology Reading?

Do you love to read your horoscope in the newspaper but wonder why it is inaccurate most of the time? Have you ever wondered if there was really something to learning about your “sign” and if it wasn’t all just a bunch of crap? Find out how to get an accurate astrology reading.

My early memories about astrology go back to pre-teen years. I would go to town with my mom and at the dime store you could buy these little astrological scrolls for a quarter or fifty cents. You put your quarter in, turned the crank, and out popped this scroll that was rolled up tightly, about 3 inches wide, 12 inches long and about 1/4 inch in diameter. Each month was a different color. It’s funny when I think about it that I was drawn to those scrolls and not the candy in the machines next to it – a precursor to doing intuitive work?

The horoscope had one or two sentences listed on it for the entire month, information about your sun sign and more. Entertaining as they were, they weren’t the most reliable advice!

Are Newspaper Horoscopes Accurate?

I highly doubt the accuracy of newspaper, magazine, and many websites that give general advice. How can they be anything but general when they are one or two paragraphs long? How can you make any decisions based on something so general? It is kind of like monthly money magazines that give advice on buying stocks. Perhaps the advice was accurate 3-4 months ago, but not by the time it is published and distributed three to four months later. Some articles tune into the energetics of the month, but that is about as useful as they could be.

How To Get An Accurate Astrology Reading

Can you actually get an accurate astrology reading? Yes.

One of the first things you need for the most accuracy is your time of birth. If you don’t know your time of birth, click here to read one of my previous articles on how you can find your time of birth for a reading.

Along with your date of birth, you also need your place of birth. You do not necessarily need to know which hospital you were born in, but you do need the city and state. Knowing the hospital will give you the county, city, and state which is really the information you need.

One of my favorite websites to visit for casting your own astrology chart is Astro.com. All you do is sign up for a free account, enter your birth information and it will generate your natal chart. A natal chart is a snapshot of the planets exact positions at your time of birth. It captures the moment in time you were born.

Can An Astrology Reading Still Be Useful If You Are Missing Your Time Of Birth?

So, can a horoscope still be useful if you are one of the many that don’t have your time of birth information? Yes.

Here are some pieces to pay attention to within your chart that are not dependent on knowing your exact time of birth:

Sun Sign – This is the sign the sun was situated in at the time of your birth. Your sun sign gives you clues to your conscious mind, your ego and how you show up in the world. Think “I AM”. It is associated with masculine energy.

Planet Positions – Along with the sun, which is a star, not a planet, you will also find a lot of useful information looking at the natal positions of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

Moon Sign – The moon can be tricky for some astrology charts if you don’t know your time of birth. This is because on certain days the moon can move between two signs. This is the sign the moon was situated in at the time of your birth. Your moon sign represents your feelings and deep inner emotions. It is associated with feminine energy.

Understanding the sun sign and the planet positions can go a long way in getting an accurate astrology reading.

Pieces that will be missing if you don’t know your birth time:

  • Ascendent or Rising Sign – This represents how you come across to others, appearance, attitude.
  • House Positions
  • Angle Signs and Degrees

What if you know your time of birth within a few hours?

If you have a good idea (not guessing) that you were born between a specific time frame like 10:00 am and Noon, you can get a higher level of accuracy within a reading. In most cases you can find out the Ascendant sign, but not the specific degree. You could cast charts for both time frames and look at what changes between both of them.

All of these pieces are what makes for a basic accurate astrology reading. What questions do you have? Leave a comment below.
