The Fifth Chakra Energy Center – The Throat Chakra

The fifth chakra energy center is located within your throat and represents the ability to speak and communicate effectively and is your true voice. Learn if your communication chakra is overactive or or underactive.

The fifth chakra is also known as Visuddha Chakra. It governs the ability to communicate and speak your mind. The thoughts in your head come out as sound vibration. Think of the fifth chakra as the filter for this vibration. Is it filtering too much or not enough?

This is the fifth in a series of posts regarding the energy centers of the body. You may be interested to read my previous posts about the First Chakra, Second Chakra , Third Chakra, or Fourth Chakra also.

One evening a few months ago, I was sitting in a chair listening to a guided chakra meditation. While concentrating on each of the chakras, beginning from the root and working its way up, I had a mental image of my 5th chakra, the communication chakra, being shaped like a beautiful azure blue stone, cut like a diamond. I was admiring the beautiful color and its radiating brilliance, when out of the blue, a small gremlin like figure came and grabbed it and carried it off. And he was laughing at me! It was as though it was stealing my voice, or at least hiding it from me. I am still working through the meaning of that one!

Balancing the Fifth Chakra

An under-active fifth chakra presents as an inability to speak your mind. Do you shy away from speaking up in a group even if you have a definite opinion about the subject at hand? Communication issues can manifest as failing to be heard or being misinterpreted by others. Do people try to put words into your mouth? Do people assume you mean one thing, but misconstrue your silence? Are you a bad listener? Do you feel unable to express your thoughts in an appropriate manner?

These are all symptoms of a weak or under-active fifth chakra. If you feel that others do not value or care about your opinions, or if you find that you are resigning yourself to going along with others opinions and suggestions, this energy center is out of balance. You may also find yourself with a sore throat.

Do you have the gift of gab?? An over-active fifth chakra shows up as a need to speak, ALL OF THE TIME! You may refuse to listen to others opinions. You are going to make sure your thoughts are heard, whether you have an audience or not. You express thoughts and opinions constantly. You may also be bent on doing things YOUR WAY and not take others opinions into consideration. I am sure, even if you yourself do not match this description, that you can think of someone within your circle of family or friends that certainly does.

For myself, I find this a bit of a conundrum. If you were to meet me in person, I am a relatively quiet individual, yet when I had this chakra test done, I turned out to have quite an overactive fifth chakra. I thought it was because of my writing this blog, but the more I thought about it, it seems more to do with not feeling as though I can speak my true thoughts about a subject and then in manifests into not so wonderful things coming out of my mouth at the totally wrong times.

Do you find yourself holding in what you really think about a subject or situation and then later, in the comfort of others that you know well making sniping remarks about that situation? What is really an under-active throat chakra issue is manifesting as an over-active issue. It is like the self is trying to compensate in a dis-empowered manner and it comes off as sarcastic remarks about people or situations instead of the core issue of not speaking your thoughts originally.

A balanced throat chakra shows as an ability to speak your truth in a manner that is cohesive, tactful, and easy to understand. It is the ability to get your message across and be understood clearly. Strong communication skills help you to be heard and gives you a presence in your dealings with others. The fifth chakra is one of self expression. If you love to sing and it flows out of you easily, you have a well-balanced fifth chakra.

Chakra Meditations

This chakra meditation can be helpful in balancing out scattered energies. Binaural beats alter your brainwaves to achieve energetic balance.

Blue and the Fifth Chakra

Sky blue or Azure blue are the colors that represent this chakra. Finding a pool or ocean of clear blue water can sooth and relax the overactive energies.

Healing Foods

As there are not a lot of blue foods out there, thankfully, except perhaps blueberries or grapes, check out this post on healing foods for the throat chakra. Peppermint, it seems can be quite useful.

Healing Gemstones and Crystals

Take a look at these gemstones and see which one calls to you.

For an under-active fifth chakra, look for dark blue stones such as Sodalite or Lapis Lazuli. They will help your self-talk.

For an over-active fifth chakra, look for lighter blue stones like blue lace agate, aquamarine, and blue quartz. This can strengthen your communication with others.

Essential Oils

Try sandalwood, cinnamon, peppermint, or vanilla essential oils with a water base and spray some on a pillow before sleep. Also, many types of incense have these oils in them and can be quite calming.

Fourth Chakra Energy Center

The Fourth Chakra energy center, also known as the heart chakra is found right in the middle of your chest.

It governs love, forgiveness, and is the essence of integration of the spiritual and the physical. The heart chakra is also known as the anahata chakra and is represented by the color green.

This is the fourth in a series of posts regarding the energy centers of the body. You may be interested to read my previous posts about the First Chakra, Second Chakra , or Third Chakra also.

Imagine a beautiful emerald stone, about the size of a baseball, glowing and radiating warmth and love to everyone that came in contact with it. That is what a balanced fourth chakra radiates and outwardly beams; love and warmth and the giving of unconditional love. It is all about loving and caring emotions and integrating our spiritual bodies with our physical bodies. You are able to give and receive love in equal proportions.

Balancing the Heart Chakra

If you have been told that your energy center of training for this lifetime is the heart chakra, look to emotional healing playing a big part in releasing some of the old stored gunk.

An overactive heart chakra will show as thinking too much with your heart, and not backing up a decision with logic or reason. You may be a “people pleaser”, in which you go overboard with trying to please and do things for others with no regard for recharging your own batteries.

An under-active heart chakra will be noticed as feeling unloved or unworthy of love. Other symptoms include fear of rejection or a fear of letting go. Your wounded “inner child” also resides here. Emotions associated with an unbalanced fourth chakra include envy, rejection, and abandonment.

Green and the Fourth Chakra

The heart chakra is represented by the color green. It can also show for some as a beautiful green orb surrounded by a soft pink color. It is the color of healing, thus how we speak of healing a broken heart.

Fourth Chakra Balancing

Spend time outdoors and walk barefoot in soft green grass. Gardening is also a great choice. For those of you in winter climates, even going to a garden center in the middle of winter can have a wonderful effect on your spirit. The smell of green plants and fresh soil is one of my favorite things to do in the winter.

This chakra meditation will also help to balance out energies.

Healing Foods

Eating and drinking green foods can help balance the heart chakra. Try spinach, kale, leafy greens, and green tea. Also using green herbs such as thyme, rosemary, basil, and cilantro in cooking can lend balance.

Essential Oils

Essential oils used to balance the heart chakra include eucalyptus, pine, tea tree, spearmint, cedarwood, rose, frankincense, bergmot, lavender, and sandalwood.

Chakra Balancing Gemstones and Crystals

Take a look at these gemstones and see which one calls to you. Green aventurine, green and pink tourmaline, emerald, jade, malachite, rose quartz, or peridot. Carry them in your pocket or use in a necklace.

Blue Lace Agate

Blue Lace Agate is a healing stone that has metaphysical properties of bringing calm, happiness and peace to the wearer. It is also known as the “communication stone”. I have also written about other healing gemstones if you wish to read more.

Its tranquil colors of the palest blue and white assist in promoting a positive mood, serene energy and calming the senses. It is an uplifting stone that can help to regain peace in your hectic day.

Blue lace agate can help regain calm in stressful situations by neutralizing angering thoughts and allowing communication to flow smoothly in a positive manner. It has been called the “communication stone”.

Anatomy of an Aura Reading

Can your aura be captured digitally? Read about my experiences with having my aura read by the use of computer software and a video camera.

In my last post about attending a psychic fair, I said I would be writing more about my experience with having my aura read. If you have ever had an interest in an aura reading, I thought this might be handy information so you know what to expect.

I attended a psychic fair a few weeks ago and along with intuitive readings, numerology, handwriting analysis, there was a lady doing aura readings. I had read a bit about them prior to this fair, so I thought it sounded interesting and signed up.

After introductions, she explained how the machine transferred the information. I sat in the chair while she adjusted the video camera to the proper angle. I then was instructed to place my hand in a comfortable position on a small blue electronic box with a silver outline of a hand. I was told my hand would have to remain on that box for about 20 minutes or so and that I couldn’t move or pick up my hand or it would mess up the machine.

Scanning the Chakras

The next step was the initial scan of each chakras via the hand that was placed on the metal box. It registered in the computer and showed my current base aura reading.

Crystals and Gemstones

She then moved on to testing 8 or 9 different stones by placing them one at a time in my right hand that was free. The portion using the different gemstones and crystals was quite fascinating to me. With each stone, the computer either showed the same aura make-up or a change to the aura. She tested clear quartz, Tiger eye, blue lace agate, and many others.

Aromatherapy

After that, she had me smell 4-5 various fragrances and turned them so I couldn’t see the label. My hand was still on the metal box at this point. The reactions also registered any changes in my aura.

The Results of my Aura Reading

I then received an 18 page printout of my aura with details on each chakra either being in or out of balance and recommendations on which stones would be useful and which aromatherapy scents I should look into.

Well, now that I have told you all that, I suppose your curious to know what the results of my aura reading were…Okay, my aura was read as blue to blue-white. It was recommended that I carry a blue lace agate stone with me in my left pocket for 40 days and a mixture of orange and lemongrass would be a good choice for aromatherapy. I also got a free mini-numerology reading, which told my life path number as an added bonus. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience that I would definitely do again.

Attending a Psychic Fair

Ever considered attending a psychic fair or wondered what one had to offer? Read about my experiences during my first visit to a metaphysical fair.

Since I write a lot about metaphysical and spiritual matter on this blog, and have now started offering intuitive readings, I thought it was appropriate that I finally find out what goes on at a psychic fair, having never been to one before.

Here is a breakdown of my experience. The metaphysical fair was held about 30 minutes from my home and was quite easy to find. I walked in and the faint smell of some type of familiar incense greeted me, though I couldn’t put my finger on just which fragrance I was sensing. It was welcoming however, and made me feel at ease.

There were two rooms, the first of which held tables with items for sale. One of the tables had a wonderful selection of healing stones and crystals and a nice variety of Tarot cards, sage, dowsing pendulums, and other items typical of a metaphysical bookstore. Another table carried some creative candle burners. I wish there had been a few more vendor tables, but I did take my time to look at each one.

There were two tables of pamphlets and information on different types of readings you could have done that day. Anything from palmistry, numerology, intuitive readings, tarot cards and aura readings. There were about a dozen in all to choose from, each reader with their own area of specialty.

I inquired about how to purchase these readings. You just signed up on a sheet, paid your money and waited until your number was called. I chose to purchase an aura reading.

That is something that I have not done before and I was curious how software and a digital camera could read my aura. I waited about 20 minutes before it was my turn. I found out that these psychic fairs are held four times per year at this particular location, so I signed up for the mailing list while waiting for my reading.

As I entered the second room, the lights were dimmed softly and there was a low buzz from the voices coming from the readings. The dozen round tables were spread out around the floor so there was plenty of room between so as not to be disturbed or overhead when you were having your intuitive reading.

I sat down and we introduced ourselves and then she told me about how a digital aura reading works. She then proceeded to do the aura reading and I received an 18 page printout on my aura and each of my chakras. It was completely fascinating.

Sorry to leave you hanging on that, but I will be writing another blog post very soon about my aura reading as it will take more than a paragraph to explain it. I will say that if you have the chance, I highly recommend getting your aura read. It’s quite cool! Sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss it.

One thing I will say, is it felt quite good to be surrounded by like minded people that can talk about this subject matter openly. I felt like I was in good company.

Third Chakra Energy Center

The Third Chakra energy center, also known as the solar plexus chakra governs acceptance of your place in the chain of life. It deals with issues such as self esteem, rejection, and criticism.

This is the third in a series of posts regarding the energy centers of the body. You may be interested to read my previous posts about the First Chakra or Second Chakra also.

Have you ever felt like you have been “punched in the gut” with words from another? When someone says unkind or hurtful words to you, this is the physical area of the body that energy is drained from. If this is something that is repeated over and over, blockages in this chakra can develop.

The third chakra is located about an inch or two above the navel, in the abdomen area below the ribcage. It is represented by a ten petal yellow lotus flower and symbolized by birds.

Physical symptoms of an unbalanced solar plexus chakra are represented in problems of the liver, spleen, kidneys, digestion, food allergies, and nervousness.

Balancing the Solar Plexus Chakra

When the third chakra is in balance, it represents your own personal power, willpower, trusting yourself, the best of your personality and healthy self esteem. It is where our healing energy comes from. The solar plexus chakra is perhaps best known for concentration, well being and optimism. It means we can relax and enjoy the fruits of our labors.

When this chakra is out of balance, you may feel like you can’t concentrate on anything or that your personal power has been taken or drained from you. You may feel a great amount of shame, frustration, anger or resentment towards someone or something that you feel has caused emotional harm to you. It could manifest as issues with authority figures. It may seem, at least in your mind, that someone is out to get you.

Blockages can physically manifest into ulcers, liver issues, problems with digestion, heartburn, arthritis, diabetes, anorexia, and bulimia. It also deals with fear, hate, and prejudice.

Yellow and the Third Chakra

By clearing and balancing this chakra, you can gain back your personal power. This can be done using a variety of methods, including scents, foods, healing crystals and binaural beats. The color yellow represents enthusiasm, confidence, warmth, optimism and joy.

Foods

Hot and spicy foods will bring energy to this chakra.

Try a cup of chamomile or peppermint tea. Both flavors are soothing and have healing effects for balancing this chakra.

Essential Oils and Incense

Try these essential oils or burn incense for bringing balance to the third chakra: cinnamon, marigold, carnation, lemon balm, chamomile, thyme, peppermint, bergamot, patchouli.

Chakra Balancing Crystals and Stones

The use of crystals can help to bring chakras into balance. Wear them as jewelry on your pulse points such as a bracelet or necklace or carry them in your pocket.

These stones are good choices to balance the third chakra: Citrine, Amber,Tiger Eye, Gold Calcite,Yellow Tourmaline, Jasper, and Golden Topaz.

How to use a Dowsing Pendulum

Learn how to use a dowsing pendulum to receive answers from your higher self. Learn to program your pendulum and the right questions to ask.

If you are not familiar with divination or pendulum dowsing, I have written brief tutorials on these pages: Pendulum Dowsing and how to choose a dowsing pendulum.

Learning to use a dowsing pendulum is fairly easy, but there are a few factors to be aware of including clearing and charging a pendulum and also knowing how to ask proper questions to get clear answers that come from your higher self.

Clearing the Pendulum

Have you recently purchased a dowsing pendulum? You MUST clear the energies from the piece before you begin to use it. By not doing so, you are still harboring the energies of another within the piece. Always begin with a fresh slate and charge the piece to your own energies before you begin to ask questions with your pendulum. By not doing so, your pendulum will not give you correct, authentic answers from your higher self. The answers may contradict themselves and may not be your truth.

I have written about before about cleansing and clearing crystals and gemstones. The exact same techniques apply for a dowsing pendulum. Bookmark this page and come back after you have cleared your divination tool.

Charging and Programming your Pendulum

By charging and programming your pendulum, you are attuning it to your own energies. This is a very important step and will determine the quality of the answers you receive.

The technique I used is described in the book Unlock Your Intuition by Andrea Hess. You really need to do the exercise from the book to properly charge your pendulum.

After the pendulum is attuned to your energies, you will ask it to show you a yes response, a no response, and an undecided response.

Please keep your pendulum in a safe place and make sure no one else touches it, as their energies can get transferred to the piece.

Proper Questions to Ask

Do not begin your questions with the word “should”, as it comes from a place of confusion or uncertainty. Instead begin your questions with something like this: Is my current job aligned with my Soul’s highest path and purpose? You can then dowse for a specific percent.

The book below, written by Andrea Hess goes into great detail about the proper types of questions to ask and how to ask them. Please take a look, it is a worthwhile purchase and will help you considerably in learning proper dowsing techniques.

Learn Pendulum Dowsing

This is one of the first metaphysical books I purchased about two years ago. It contains a wealth of information in regards to pendulum dowsing and great instruction on how to use a dowsing pendulum to its fullest potential. I highly recommend getting this book.

Healing Properties of Clear Quartz

Cleansing Crystals and Gemstones

Cleansing your crystals and gemstones is an important step in having your stones work for you. Learn how to clear and cleanse your newly purchased stones and gems.

About a month ago I took a mini-vacation and purchased quite a few polished stones and some pieces of crystal and amethyst. You can read more about the crystals and gemstones I purchased here.

After I got them home, I went about cleansing each of the crystals and stones. Clearing residual energy from the stones you purchase is an important step in making each of the items work specifically for you.

Who Knows Where that Crystal Has Been?

The reason that you need to cleanse items purchased for psychic or energy work is that you have no idea whose energy is attached to the items. Think of just how many people have touched the item you just purchased. From the person that mined the stone, to the person that polished the stone, to the shipper, and the retailer, the stone could have absorbed many different energies along the way.

In order to make the stone or crystal work in the way it was intended, it is important to begin with a blank slate. If you need to trust the feeling and information you are receiving via healing stones, you need to erase any existing energies attached to the stones before you begin using them.

This is the first of two steps to making your stones and crystals charged specifically to your own energy. The second involves charging the objects with your energy.

How to Cleanse Your Crystals and Gemstones

Here are three different methods for cleansing your crystals and gemstones:

Salt Method

Purchase a canister of sea salt (table salt will not work) and pour a good amount into a small dish. Do not add water. Place 1-3 stones in the dish, making sure they do not touch each other, and bury them until they are covered with more sea salt. Keep covered for 24 hours and then rinse and dry the items. Keep the sea salt handy as it can be re-used for future stone purchases.

Sea salt absorbs the energies present in the stone or crystal and brings things back to neutral and then the object is ready to be charged.

Earth Method

Use one of your houseplants or outdoor plants and place your stones in the soil at the base of the plant for 24 hours. Wash and dry the stones. The energy field from the plant will draw any residual energy and cleanse the crystals and gemstones.

Water Method

Wash the gemstones in hot, and then in cold running water. Repeat the process three times. This is by far the quickest and easiest method.

Any of the above methods are equally successful in cleansing residual energies. There are other methods as well like using the moon phases that require a bit more timing.

Once you have cleansed your crystals and gemstones, you are now ready to charge the objects with your own energy. I will be writing on that in an upcoming post.

The Sacral Chakra Energy Center

The Sacral Chakra energy center governs creativity, reproduction, and daily relationships. Learn to heal and balance your second chakra by the use of meditation, crystals, and forgiveness. The Sanskrit name for this energy center is Swadhisthana.

This is the second in a series of posts regarding the energy centers of the body. You may be interested to read my previous post about the Root or First Chakra also.

The second chakra is located just below the naval in the lower abdomen area. Physically, this chakra represents the area of reproduction and sexual organs. It governs your hips, groin, bladder, and large intestine. It is represented by the color orange and the element of water.

Balancing the Sacral Chakra

When the sacral chakra is in balance, it represents an outpouring of creativity through newborn thoughts and ideas. It also governs healthy relationships and your everyday interactions with people in your daily lives, the ability to cope with day to day events, and healthy emotional attachments to people. This chakra is about learning to consciously interact with others around you in a healthy manner. It represents physical grace, the Law of cause and effect, and choices that you make.

The sacral chakra is perhaps best known for governing sexuality. This involves warm and loving attitudes about the creation of life, sex, fertility, procreation, and emotions.

When this chakra is out of balance, issues regarding self respect, fear of losing control, financial loss, ability to survive and thrive, and poorly balanced relationships will be present. Eating issues such as anorexia and bulimia, along with buried emotions and depression are associated with an unbalanced second chakra.

Blockages can manifest into sexual problems such as infertility, impotence, lack of sexual desire, and physical awkwardness, all having their roots within this second energy center.

Negative thoughts and actions arising out of fear also drain energy from this chakra. Energy given to dead end jobs or relationships, domination by others or situations, gossip and manipulation drain life from this energy center. Problems with survival or the ability to survive hit home here too.

Orange and the Second Chakra
